Dear Friends:
For seven generations, my family has been part of the fabric of the Palmetto State, teaching each successive generation the values of honest labor, concern for others and love of country. Over these generations our family has worked tirelessly to build a strong state with opportunities for all of our citizens. It is this lineage of public service that has developed in me a passion for my work as Representative for District 72 in the House of Representatives.
During my decade of service, I have been strengthened by listening closely to the people of District 72 and working hard to represent their interests. My focus as a House Representative has been unwavering on issues that matter such as education, the environment, public safety, government reform and fair taxation.
It is an honor to serve this District. I was born and grew up here and, and is now home for my wife and our four children. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to serve you and will continue to work hard to merit your trust and provide you with the accountable and responsive state government you deserve.
As you may be aware from February 2007 until July 2008, I was on active duty military service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan undertaking a mission that thousands of South Carolina families have participated in. Thank you for all your support.
With warmest regards,

Rep. James Smith
